Bread and Stone

During an art residency at Masseria Cultura (Puglia, IT) I investigated how fire could shape and generate ways of community.
Over time, bread has always represented community and the essence of nourishment. The Masseria has an old communal oven that was used to fire bread of the people from the nearby towns. After many years, I lit the oven, bringing it to life again.

In a creative and dynamic place as the masseria, I wanted to shape a bread from the wood oven that could identify such environment where a lot of people meet.
The choice of working with flat bread was given by the fact that several food cultures have this kind of baked product, and by its versatility.
The stones of the masseria itself became moulds of new shapes, that don’t resemble existing breads but are unique to this exact time, place, gathering space.
